Emma Harrison "steps aside"

No, not from A4e, but from her role as the government's "family champion".  (See the piece on the BBC website.)  Who knows whether that was her decision or the government's.
The BBC has interviewed Margaret Hodge MP, who says it's the right thing to do, but she wants A4e's contracts suspended.  Clients, she says, could go to other primes in the area.  The company has made "excess profit" and now has 9 allegations of fraud hanging over it.

  1. Well really! No big deal as she wasn't getting paid for it!

  2. I'm sure she'll take consolation in her enormous personal wealth. I hope it's some comfort through this difficult time.

  3. Just heard the news Historian! Not before time.

However, it does not go at all far enough! As Margaret Hodge says, A4e's contracts need to be suspended ASAP. Not only this, A4e needs to be investigated by the Serious Fraud Office. AND the entire W2W needs a thorough clean up as well.

  5. It was the governments decision as has been made clear. She is becoming something of an embarrassment to them.

  6. This government is an embarrassment to the British public. I think we might be in for a Long Hot Summer.

  8. I read another article earlier this evening she was on the decline anyway and a Louise Casey was appointed last autumn to also help troubled families. So Emma's demise was probably imminent and perhaps this week's troubles sealed her fate regarding her family championing.

  9. This should be the end of Emma Harrison and A4E, she is a shameful person and not before time.

  10. Could not believe the hapless Greyman Grayling this morning accousing anarchists for attacking W2W providers and forcing retailers to pull out of his ill fated workfare sheme.

The man is as desperate at he is clueless!

  11. Re: a4e Fraud

In 2010 a4e signed me up and signed me off on the same day. I had already got a job through another job broker (as they were known at the time)

I had had no previous dealings with a4e but was told by Job Centre Plus that if I went in they would give me some money for clothing which I needed for my job.

I was upfront with them and told them I'd already got a job but they signed me up anyway, gave me the money for clothing and immediately signed me off as having got a job.

Is this fraud? Did they get paid for doing no work? It felt weird at the time but in the light of recent stories it feels weirder. Was this common practice?

    1. The timing would matter. If you were due to start the job on the same day as your start with A4e it would have been wrong. But if your job start was later then, yes, it was normal practice. You signed that you'd started with them, then signed that you'd got a job. They gave you the clothing etc. then signed you off and claimed the job outcome. Quite permissible. But, as you say, weird.

    2. I seem to recall that this happened on the Friday and I started work on the Monday falling into the permissible category, if not the strictly ethical in my opinion. Thanks

    2. What I wanted to do was put you in touch with a journalist! I suggest you take it directly to a paper or TV channel. I won't publish anything I can't verify myself; which doesn't mean I doubt you.
