How A4e did

Those good folks at the Guardian have published the WP performance data by provider.
A4e have 5 areas.  Their best performance was in South Yorkshire, with 3.55%.  Their worst was in the Thames Valley, with 2.78%.  The average for all 5 areas is 3.28%.  A4e isn't the worst but it's far from the best.
Krishnan Guru-Murty has tweeted: "A4e founder Emma Harrison not available to explain why her claim #c4news figures were wrong turned out to be, er, wrong."

  2. Channel 4 have a brief article up about their earlier interview with Emma:

I'm not surprised she is avoiding Channel 4 news now that the official numbers are available, she would get intellectually destroyed again. Denial and accusations of bullying won't work this time.

  3. Okay, somebody slap me! I just went on the A4E Website their Press Release for 27 Nov is,well? Just go read it! Talk about denial or perhaps Mandatory Drug tests should performed on all senior staff.

  5. Just seen Mark Hoban being ever divorced from reality on Ch4 News. The man is clearly in denial esp if he expects a 20% success at the end of the 2nd year of the WP.

  6. Cheers Historian, I have now downloaded the full table for all private Providers performance.

It's disgusting, the whole Work Programme needs shutting down.

  7. It appears that today's Work Programme results will be debated tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 28 November, in the main Chamber of the House of Commons:

  8. 3.5% is an absolute disgrace. It is even lower than the figures released for the last incarnation of the programme (FnD) and falls way short of the original contracted target - A figure, which if my memory is correct, was somewhere in the region of 28%. How many of these people "helped back in to work" already had jobs lined up before falling vitim to this travesty ?

No doubt the providers will seek to blame the poor economy or entrenched workshyness of the participant rather than accepting that they are a total failure.
Begs the question what the h**l am I paying taxes for ??

  9. It would be good if we could see a breakdown of those few that got a job by age group, length of unemployment, disability.

    1. There are a lot of such stats here: http://statistics.dwp.gov.uk/asd/asd1/work_programme/wp_release_nov12.pdf?x=1
but it doesn't break it down by provider.

  10. I'm wondering what punitive measures this Government will take against A4e for failing to achieve their minimum contractual agreement to get 5.5% of clients into employment.

If I fail to comply with my jobseekers agreement I'd get sanctioned and end up under a bridge begging for food.

    Just wondering..

    1. How sweet, a pleb thinking that he should be judged by the same standards that apply to the one percent.

  11. Private Eye is out today. I wonder what if anything they say about the WP's very poor performance? They did a big expose of PFI a few years back. The WP needs similar treatment.

  12. I don't think there is anything in the current Private Eye on WP - we went to press before these results came out. However, we have done many ,many articles on the Work Programme amd A4e, Working Links, Ingeus, Seetec, Maximus et al to date - you really need to buy it regularly (or read it in the library) - Ian Hislop has been, frankly, very generous in the amount of space he has given to this subject. There might be a couple of pieces in the next issue though

    1. Thanks for that Solomon. Actually, I have been buying Private Eye since around 1992!

And yes, PE has been one of the few big names in the media (along with The Guardian, Ch4 News and BBC Newsnight)giving this subject any coverage.

  13. Milliband now asking questions on the WP in PMQ's. Now Cameron is spinning the usual BS, half of those on the WP comming off benefits, over 200,000 have gone into work, blah, blah..

Cameron, Smith and Hoban simply cannot come clean about the various reasons why people sign off and the fact that many jobs created are highly dubious, short term 0-hour, minimum hour guarantee, commission only, false self employment and dodgy marketing vacancies.

    1. Out of the 887,880 on the Work Programme throughout the UK, only 31,240 got jobs between June 2011 to July 2012.

So where has Cameron got this 200,000 figure from?

    2. It's the number of breaks in claims. So if someone signs off because of a single shift with an agency and signs back on again, that's a job. Anything that didn't last 6 months.

  14. Dunno why you lot are complaining. i earn in excess of 25k right now. Due to 2 promotions and BLOODY HARD WORK!!!! All thanks to my provider who have been excellent! You guys are just jelouse and need a lesson in manners and common sense.

The 3.5% figure represents those who WANT TO WORK!

So my WP provider, BEST (now bought by INTERSERVE WORKING FUTURES) achieved just a 2.71 per cent key performance in West Yorkshire.

Dreadful. Abysmal. All those many thousands of its customers failed by such a poor performance.

    A tax payer funded shambles.

  16. Total paid out in start up fee's to all providers from June 2011 to July 2012:

    £400 x 877,880 people = £355,152,000.00p or 1/3rd of a Billion pounds. - just on start up fees.

Nice money if you can get it.
