Famous, Rich and Jobless

More details have been published of this series. "Back to work tsar and chairman of A4E, which rehabilitates the long-term unemployed, Emma Harrison is to appear in a new BBC TV series, Famous, Rich and Jobless where ‘unemployed’ celebrities will experience joblessness." Given the list of celebs taking part, it reminds you of "I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here". And all lovely national and international publicity for Emma and A4e, paid for by our licence fees.

  1. i wonder where these z list celebs will be experiencing what it is like to be unemployed.

£9 a day.. where.. i dont get £9 a day, i got £15 a week minus £4.. on top of my normal dole.. 9 time 5 days is £45.. it doesnt add up

will be sent into some of Britain’s most deprived areas, be stripped of their identities and live alone and unemployed in inner-city areas of Bristol, London, Manchester and Hartlepool on £9-a-day

  3. So hold on...!!! These are X-listers who are not actually unemployed, but just pretending to be for the purposes of some tacky TV show?

Why not, and here's a novel idea, use those who are actually out of work? I really do not see the point of this program to be honest. Is it to show what ggod work A4e does? Is it to show what a good egg Emma H is? Or is it to dispell or back up various myths about unemployment? No doubt this will be presented as some grand 'social experiment' akin to Ch4's recent Tower Block of Commons.

It would be far better to see the BBC tackle what steps are being taken by the DWP to provide REAL training, work experience and job opportunities to those out of work.

  8. Larry stayed in my house while he was in hartlepool, i am unemployed and he was a very nice man, where i live is a derlict area and he was shocked to be taken there but he told me when i met up with him my house was nice on the inside. it was clean and he couldnt work the heating i had to show him after he had been there 3 days. we wentto the libary and i showed him how i used the computers to look for work, and told him i have always worked until this last 12mth all to do with the credit crunch i lost my job so did 70 men, he did not realise how little we have to live on£64.30pw. but i did tell him how the job centre treat you like something off the bottom of their shoes. and the dont give information out about money you can get help with like clothes for intervies and buss fares

  9. the programe makers told me when they came to hartlepool it was to show that the perception of people being on the dole were not scroungers and that we had just had a bad luck in the jobs market because of the credit crunch thats why i agreed to take part. the bbc came looking for somewhere for a celeb to stay and i rang the number on the leaflet. larry lamb stayed in my house and i could not fault the man he was kind and he gave me the asda aplication form he had got wen he went out to look for work helped me fill it in but when i took it in to them they said they had no jobs, the production team where very good to me and so was larry, i have applied for over 250 jobs but they never reply which gets you down , i search for work everyday

  12. This is just a short comment to the lady that took part in the programme and who allowed Larry Lamb to stay in her home. I do not know where to start as the programme has really shaken me and opened my eyes to the way this country works and treats people who have to experience such awful and unacceptable conditions. I watched it this evening and cannot express how much it shocked and upset me to see the kinds of situations that people are subjected too. I hope I do not cause you any offense or upset you in any way but my heart went out to you, much more so than I can possibly say. I had to tell you how much your situation had an impact on me and I really hope everything improves for you very quickly. No one should be subjected to what you have been through and showed in the programme. I realise that words from someone you do not know are most likely meaningless but I cannot adequately express to you how much your story has had an impact on me. I wish I could have sent this to you personally but, on the other hand, I hope that it makes people realise that anything can happen to anyone and that no one deserves it. Your honesty, strength and determination is truly inspiring and i hope things improve for you. And, even though you do not know me, I am wishing you the very best. Take care x
