Seems obvious to anyone with a modicum of common sense especially where taxpayers money is concerned.Milly Tantnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6941116624675227992.post-27409195175396079522010-03-30T12:59:42.498-07:002010-03-30T12:59:42.498-07:00But, imatt, the local authorities have been taking...But, imatt, the local authorities have been taking on a lot of functions in regard to job-finding and training provision, together with local employers and voluntary organisations. It tends to be in the early months of unemployment, with the private sector dealing with the longer-term jobless. This report suggests that it makes sense to leave it with the local councils and give them the funding to do it.historianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11922746528891041071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6941116624675227992.post-205769402507776552010-03-30T12:46:31.510-07:002010-03-30T12:46:31.510-07:00A good idea in principle. How about utilising local colleges and universities to provide PROPER training.

The problem however, is that firstly, there are too many vested interests. I guess private W2W providers would fight tooth and nail to keep this industry alive. Just look at the way some of them esp *** try to silence critics. Govt is far too close to these providers also.

Secondly, for the past 30 years local councils have been offloading many of their services onto the private sector. Thatcher's Tories forced them to put various services out to tender. New Labour has simply continued this trend. As would Camerons's Tories if given the chance. So I can't see local councils actually taking over something what is already in the private domain as long as New Labour and the Tories are so ideologically wedded to wholesale privatisation.imattnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6941116624675227992.post-28200426592795294652010-03-30T10:18:57.845-07:002010-03-30T10:18:57.845-07:00never thought i would see common sense and governm...never thought i would see common sense and government in the same sentenceMercuriorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14607976378571790610noreply@blogger.com
